For research inquiries, The South Carolina Historical Society encourages researchers to use the Society's collections at the Fireproof Building on 100 Meeting Street. Members may use the library free of charge. There is a $5.00 daily fee for non-members.

The South Carolina Historical Society staff is pleased to assist researchers by e-mail, telephone or in person in locating materials relative to their interests. While we offer researchers a variety of reference services, we cannot undertake extensive research of any sort, including genealogical or historical. You may want to consider hiring a professional researcher for more extensive and in-depth research.

The library of the South Carolina Historical Society is open Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. In addition, the library is open on Tuesday evenings until 7:30 p.m by appointment.
