Education Programs

Middleton Place offers specially structured programs to meet the needs of visiting schools, camps and other youth organizations.  All programs are customized to meet the individual goals or curriculum standards requested by the educator or group organizer. 

Programming begins with a 60 minute guided walking tour of Middleton Place.  Led by trained interpreters, program participants explore the National Historic Landmark.  Themes addressed include: the American Revolution, South Carolina and Charleston History, Low Country Rice Culture, Plantation Life, the Civil War, Slavery, 18th and 19th century domestic skills and animal husbandry.  Tours are designed to be age appropriate and meet many of the South Carolina Department of Education Academic Standards.

In addition, tours of the Middleton Place House Museum, African American focus tours and horse-drawn carriage rides can be added to your group's itinerary.

Home School Groups

Middleton Place welcomes Home School groups.  Formalized, guided programming is available, by reservation, for groups of 15 or more.  Please contact the education staff for more information.

The education staff will personalize an itinerary to help your troop meet specific badge requirements.  Please contact the Director of Education for more details.

Making Reservations

Reservations may be made by directly contacting the Director of Education. Availabilty is limited — please reserve one month in advance.  Groups may schedule their visits Monday through Friday, beginning at 10:00 a.m. For more information please email Katherine Norris, or call (843) 377-0538.
